TORONTO - After 16 years hosting CHFI's Saturday Night Oldies show, Don Daynard has decided to retire.

Yesterday, Daynard made the announcement during the CHFI morning show he used to host (perennially leading the ratings with also-recently-departed co-host Erin Davis), which is now helmed by Mad-Dog and Billie.

He told listeners that after major surgery in November where doctors removed his esophagus due to cancer, he has decided to take time to rest and get healthy. Daynard had worked at CHFI since 1987 and stepped down as morning show host in 1999.

"I'm just getting back to normal now and decided that probably the best thing to do is drift off in the sunset," Daynard said.

"His listeners will certainly miss him on the weekends but we respect his decision and wish him a speedy recovery," added CHFI's general manager and program director Julie Adam.
